Who we are

The Afrika Knowledge Academy (AKA) was formed in 2023 after SF-Group consolidated its training offerings, services and capability. The Afrika Knowledge Academy owes its experience, expertise and high standards to fifteen years of worldwide, industry leading service delivery. We believe training is a central pillar in the management of risk, in allowing organisations to ensure the long-term safety and security of their assets, and actively contributes to the ESG frameworks of our clients.

What we do

The Afrika Knowledge Academy is an industry leading training provider delivering cutting edge, expertly curated and internationally accredited training to organisations from a range of sectors. We strive to provide high quality, flexible and compliant training in areas where this is not readily available.

We specialise in matters of safety and security and we deliver training across Africa and into other regions including the Americas, the Middle East and Asia. Our training packages are designed to help our clients strengthen skills, maintain standards, develop new ways of thinking, improve business processes and refine their risk mitigation strategies.

Our approach

The Afrika Knowledge Academy has developed a portfolio of internationally accredited courses whilst remaining focused on meeting specific operational or geographical requirements. We work closely with our clients to understand their exact needs and develop a tailored syllabus.

Our network of instructors is carefully recruited and brings a wealth of real-world operational experience, adult learning qualifications with local understanding and knowledge.

As part of a worldwide company we have strong networks and extensive operating experience around the globe. Our training is governed by international, local and industry specific standards. We are determined to maintain and improve quality through strict adherence to these standards as well as internal and external quality assurance.

We can deliver courses at our AKA facilities in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania, but can also conduct training across the African continent and beyond if there is a need. We thrive in operationally challenging environments

Personnel Safety and Security

The Afrika Knowledge Academy has developed and delivered a variety of courses to a wide range of clients operating in challenging environments. We understand the need to ensure our client's personnel are prepared to operate in challenging environments, providing them with location specific information and intelligence, theories and techniques and practical experience. We equip personnel with the requisite tools to operate safely and with confidence in any environment and deal with situations as they arise.

Hostile Environment Awareness Training (HEAT) - 3 days or 5 days

This Highfield International Accredited HEAT qualification is developed and owned by Afrika Knowledge Academy. Upon conclusion of the training course, clients will be able to ensure the long-term safety and security of their personnel whilst deployed in the most challenging environments. The AKA will work directly with the client’s management to develop a bespoke HEAT training package delivered in accordance with International standards. On completion, students will also receive an International certificate in emergency first aid.

The HEAT course focuses on location specific threats, theories of personal safety and security awareness, techniques for handling a range of security incidents from kidnap and ransom, terrorist incidents, civil unrest and more. The HEAT course is a blend indoor classroom-based teaching and practical exercises and realistic simulated scenarios.

The AKA can deliver HEAT courses at our facilities in Nairobi, Kampala and Dar es Salaam, but can also conduct training across the African continent and beyond if there is a need. We thrive in operationally challenging environments.

Personal Safety and Security Awareness- 1 day

This course, designed and internally accredited by the Afrika Knowledge Academy, delivers a comprehensive overview of region specific and general security concerns and how to avoid/react to them when travelling to regions with an enhanced risk profile.

Security

The Afrika Knowledge Academy is committed to passing on the knowledge and experience gained through 18 years providing world class security services through internationally and locally accredited training services. Security professionals are often on the front line of dealing with dangerous and life-threatening incidents, they are crucial to the protection of people and property as well as prevention and detection of crime. It is vital that they are equipped with the correct training, equipment and support. The Afrika Knowledge Academy offers a variety of courses aimed at security personnel and can design any additional content according to client requirement.

Level 3 International Certificate in Close Protection – 3 weeks
Level 2 International Award in Security Guarding – 5 days
Level 2 International Award in CCTV Operations (Public Space Surveillance) – 4 days
First Aid

The Afrika Knowledge Academy is committed to providing high quality medical training. In environments where emergency medical services are scarce or non-existent, it is crucial for personnel to be able to deal with a medical emergency and stabilise a casualty before specialist medical facilities and personnel can be reached. The courses we offer are listed below and are adapted to meet specific requirements relating to the operating environment.

Level 2 in Basic Life Support and Use of an AED- Foundation in first aid for all employees- 4 hours
Level 3 International Award in Emergency First Aid and use of an AED with CPR for all ages- A comprehensive course aimed at anybody who may need to provide emergency first aid- 1 day
Level 3 International Award in First Aid at Work- Aimed at those identified as first aiders within a workplace- 3 days
Level 3 Award in Emergency Care for First Responders- An advanced course covering a wider variety of casualties and aimed at somebody who is identified as having a first responder responsibility within their daily work- 5 days

Health and Safety

The Afrika Knowledge Academy recognises the need for accredited training which will keep personnel safe at work and ensure adherence to the organisation’s health and safety directives. The core courses we offer are listed below and can be modified to meet specific requirements relating to the operating environment.

Level 1 International Award in Principles of Health and Safety- Aimed to inform personnel of potential threats and risks to health and safety on a work environment- 4 hours
Level 1 International Award in Health and Safety for Construction Labourers and Site Visitors- Suitable for anybody who may be expected to work on or visit a construction site- 3 hours
Level 1 International Award in Health and Safety for Construction Labourers and Site Visitors- Suitable for anybody who may be expected to work on or visit a construction site- 3 hours
Level 1 International Award in Working at Heights- Aimed at those working in any environment who will have a job role involving work at height activities- 4 hours
Level 1 International Award in Working in Confined Spaces- Aimed at those working in any environment who will have a job role involving work in confined spaces activities- 4 hours
Level 2 Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace- Provides learners with knowledge of health and safety practices essential in the workplace- 6 hours
Level 3 International Award in Accident and Incident Investigation- Aimed at supervisors, managers or team leaders who may be expected to conduct investigations into health and safety incidents-1 day
Level 3 International Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace- Aimed at those preparing to work or already working as a supervisor, manager or team leader- 3 days
Level 3 International Award in Health and Safety for Construction Supervisors- Suitable for supervisors and managers in any construction environment. Covers responsibilities, risk assessment, safe system implementation and safety briefings- 2 days
Fire Safety

Incidents involving fire can be devastating for an organisation and its personnel through risk to life, destruction of physical assets and business continuity.

Level 1 International Award in Fire Safety- Aimed at personnel in any workplace where a basic understanding of fire safety is required- 4 hours
Level 2 International Award in Fire Safety- Aimed at anyone involved in the management of fire safety in the workplace. This could include managers, supervisors, team leaders, fire wardens (marshals) and staff working in any area where there is a potential risk of fire- 7 hours
Level 2 International Award in Fire Safety for Fire Wardens- Designed for those who have been designated the responsibility to support the ongoing management of fire safety- 8 hours

Driving

We work with long standing partners to deliver high quality driver training to meet the needs of any operating environment. Below is the core offering, content can be adapted and created to meet the demands of your operations by region, vehicle and role. All instructors are internationally certified.

Advanced Defensive Driving course (2 days)- Designed to develop safer, more confident and responsible drivers, mitigate driving related risks to drivers and their passengers and reduce maintenance and running costs and increase fuel efficiency.
Vehicle based Security Tactics, Techniques and procedures (1 day, can be added to 2-day course)
